Franck Sauzée arrived at Hibernian in February 1999 from Montpellier, bringing with him a glittering résumé that included three Ligue 1 titles, a UEFA Champions League win with Marseille, and 39 caps for France

Quickly appointed club captain, the versatile midfielder–turned–sweeper was instrumental in guiding the team back to the Scottish Premier League, leading them to a third-place SPL finish and a Scottish Cup Final in 2001, as well as UEFA Cup qualification.

Beloved by fans and nicknamed “Le God,” he never lost an Edinburgh derby, famously scoring in a 3–1 victory even after being knocked unconscious during the game. His legacy as a player endures—still revered as a cult hero and Easter Road legend.
